Why extra-curricular activities are great on your CV

15 Apr 2019

What do you think is the most important part of your CV? Your education? Any previous work experience? How about your extra-curricular activities? Believe it or not, it’s not always your grades or prior jobs that will secure that role. Here’s some great ideas of extra-curricular activities that could give your CV that extra advantage.

  • Clubs/groups: Whether you regularly play sports or take part in your local theatre group, these sorts of activities show skills such as dedication, being a good team player and aspiring to achieve your goals.
  • Volunteering: Nothing says ‘hard-worker’ like offering your free time for a good cause and can show your trustworthiness and enthusiasm for community involvement.
  • Internships: If you’ve completed an internship this shows commitment to learning more about a particular industry and desire to expand knowledge.
  • Part-time work: Holding a part-time job, especially if it’s alongside your studies will prove valuable when you start looking for potential roles and will allow you to demonstrate skills such as responsibility and time management.
  • Transferable skills: Think about how all of the above have allowed you to collate certain skills that can apply to any job role, such as being hard working, dedicated, or good at dealing with pressure.
